Sulguri, located in Betasing subdivision of South West Garo Hills near the Assam border, is divided into two parts: Sulguri A (Koch-dominated) and Sulguri B (Hajong-dominated). The CMYC center sits between the two, surrounded by paddy fields.
Farming and daily wage labor are the main sources of livelihood, especially busy during harvest season. The CMYC center provides valuable learning space, particularly for women in Sulguri A, who are eager to develop skills like plastic bag making—offering a new income opportunity.
