Community description

Line 85
Nongwah is a remote village located 36 miles from Mawphlang in the East Khasi Hills district. With a population of over 790, the majority of residents depend on agriculture—primarily potato farming. Thanks to its proximity to Mawsynram, the village receives abundant rainfall and produces a variety of fruits in all seasons except winter. The introduction of the “Nook” has opened new learning and creative opportunities for villagers, helping them think beyond traditional paths—even without formal education. However, the village still lacks basic amenities. Healthcare access is limited, with the nearest clinic several kilometers away. Poor roads and street lighting worsen conditions, especially during health emergencies.
